A complex web of state and federal laws and regulations govern an employer’s obligation to maintain a harassment-free workplace. Though maintaining an anti-harassment policy is a first step to reducing exposure to harassment lawsuits, it is not enough. Employers should also educate all levels of their workforce about appropriate workplace conduct. This interactive presentation will not only cover the legal definitions of the various forms of harassment, but will also provide guidance on some of the gray areas that commonly arise in the modern workplace. Attendees will also gain valuable insight into investigations, avoiding retaliation, and appropriate courses of action to take when witnessing harassment. Gillian Murphy focuses her practice on employment advice and counsel. She helps employers of all sizes successfully navigate every aspect of the employment relationship, including compliance with leave and disability law, discrimination investigations, updating personnel policies, and drafting executive compensation agreements. Brent Hamilton is a litigator who focuses his practice on employment matters, including claims for sexual harassment, wrongful termination, discrimination, and retaliation. He has experience representing clients in a wide variety of business litigation and complex litigation, including claims related to non-compete agreements, breaches of contract, partnership disputes, business torts, property damage, and personal injury

During this workshop, Dr. Wade Larson will share the 5 steps HR leaders must take to develop these leadership competencies. He will explore the current state of affairs in today’s work environment and the progress over the past 20 years since HR’s effort to “get a seat at the table” as well as what we’ve done with it as a profession.
