April 2018 Chapter Meeting: Emotional Intelligence – The Science and Learning
Presented by: Russ Keefer, SPHR - ret. CHRO, Trios Health

The concept of Emotional Intelligence (EI) first appeared to the masses in the 1990’s, and it served as the missing link in a peculiar finding: people with average IQs outperform those with the highest IQs 70% of the time. This anomaly threw a massive wrench into what many people had always assumed was the sole source of success—IQ. Decades of research now point to emotional intelligence as the critical factor that sets star performers apart from the rest of the pack.  Emotional intelligence is the “something” in each of us that is a bit intangible. It affects how we manage behavior, navigate social complexities, and make personal decisions that achieve positive results.  In this session we will take an introductory look at EI with the goal of starting a journey of professional development, that enhances how you relate to, and work with others.

Russ Keefer, SPHR – Russ Keefer has been a Senior HR Executive for over 40 years in healthcare, and general consulting for various industries, most recently as CHRO for Trios Health, retiring after 12 years in May 2017.  He received his MBA from Wichita State University.  He has also been an Adjunct Professor at Washington State University since 2008.  He excels in coaching, mentoring, teaching, training, and leadership development with the goal of assisting others to enhance their individual, professional and leadership skills.
