Topic: SharedWork Program

SharedWork is an employer focused program and excellent resource to help stabilize the operations of most businesses during temporary economic setbacks. The program pays workers a portion of unemployment insurance (UI) benefits when hours are reduced. This gives employers the power to prevent full layoffs and a smart method to manage the bottom line.

Speaker Bio:

Rafael Colón is the SharedWork program business outreach manager and promotes the Employment Security Department (ESD) business-friendly programs. He returned to ESD in 2017 where began his career in public service. He serves as ESD’s representative on the Small Business Liaison Team helping businesses thrive in Washington State. Holds a B.A. from WSU and completed several MBA level courses in managerial and organizational leadership. Rafael has an exciting background as a public servant and sole proprietor. He is a proud military brat whose father’s distinguished service of over 27 years in the United States Army includes the Congressional Gold Medal with the 65 Infantry Regiment – Borinqueneers from Puerto Rico. 

The Employment Security Department (ESD)  is a well-known and reputable Governor cabinet level agency led by appointed Commissioner, Cami Feek. Many Washingtonians refer to the ESD as the unemployment insurance department but our services do not begin and end there. ESD’s offers an array of nationally recognized business-friendly programs such as SharedWork, Paid Family and Medical Leave, WA Cares, Labor Market Information, to name a few.
